A little over a year ago Piers Morgan was one of Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters. But it seems even he cannot excuse the blatant racism and general lack of professionalism on display from the U.S. president as of late. The British journalist, who is known for his often polarizing opinions, has come out in defence of Bad Bunny’s half-time show, clashing with Trump and the rest of MAGA in the process.
Donald Trump made his feelings about the Super Bowl half-time show known via the usual method of delivery: a rambling Truth Social rant. In his lengthy post he called the show “absolutely terrible,” bemoaning the lack of English lyrics and claiming that Bad Bunny’s performance “doesn’t represent our standards of success, creativity, or excellence.”
Aside from being a blatant admission that Trump opted to watch the Super Bowl half-time show rather than the tepid TPUSA knock-off which aired at the same time, it shows just how desperate the president is to put other cultures down. Most people enjoyed Bad Bunny’s show, but because it’s not a polished piece of pro-American propaganda Trump can’t bring himself to admit it. Piers Morgan was one of those people and he wanted to let his so-called friend know.

Piers Morgan loved the performance
Morgan disagreed with Trump’s post, pointing to the amount of work and talent that went into the production of Bad Bunny’s performance. On top of that, the message of the show was “unifying” in the words of Piers himself. He also pointed out the fact that Spanish is a first language for over 50 million American citizens.
The British journalist has had a somewhat confusing relationship with Trump. Prior to the 2024 election, Morgan expressed very pro-Trump rhetoric, while often mocking Kamala Harris and the opposition. His views have often aligned with the president’s on many matters which demonstrate that Morgan is almost as inhumane as Trump himself.
However, Morgan isn’t a typical Trump yesman. While he certainly isn’t afraid of shamelessly cozying up with racists, neo-nazis and rapists, he will occasionally take a stand. The Super Bowl half-time show was apparently one of these times. Perhaps he is just trying to distance himself from Trump in the wake of his disastrous first year in office. Whatever the case, Morgan’s opinion wasn’t exactly welcomed by his mostly right-wing following.
“We don’t care what you think over there in the UK Mr. Morgan, you are not American,” wrote one person who seems all too eager to embrace the isolationism Trump has plunged the country into. Another close-minded individual called the fact that 50 million U.S. citizens speak Spanish “terrifying.” It seems the Trump supporters remain as dogmatic in their support of the president and his fearmongering as ever.
