Close to a million of us Brits have cancelled our streaming subscriptions as the cost of living crisis worsens - with many turning to free alternatives for their viewing pleasure.
A substantial rise in inflation coupled with soaring energy bills has lead many of us to ditch services such as Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+.
And while this means much talked-about smash hits such as Stranger Things or the new Lord of the Rings series will fall by the wayside, those hankering for new movies and boxsets to binge will be delighted to know there are a number of other free apps to sate you.
But before you turn your head away from the screen in disgust - just because these apps are free doesn't mean they are lacking in quality. Far from it, in fact!
I'm interested, tell me more
Launched last year, Amazon's Freevee app is home to a number of exclusive shows and movies that you can't find anywhere else - such as the big name Bosch Legacy series, a follow-up to Bosch based on Michael Connelly's books.
Other original content available on Freevee includes Judy Justice, which stars reality TV's Judge Judy, teen spy drama Alex Rider (which boasts an impressive 85 percent Rotten Tomatoes score) and a documentary on pop superstar Post Malone.
Alongside these top original shows, there's a massive selection of movies such as classic horror The Blair Witch Project, the critically acclaimed Slow West (starring Michael Fassbender), and the family-friendly Angry Birds Movie 2. Other things to look out for on Freevee are hit comedies Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock.
How to get it: You can get Freevee here via your web browser, on Fire TV as well as Google TV and Android TV devices, and through the official Android and iOS app.
Laugh along to Ricky Gervais's Extras and cook up a storm with Gordon Ramsay
Have you ever heard of Plex?
It's one of the most popular free streaming apps around, with more than 25 million people signed up to use the movie and boxset service.
Just like Freevee, Plex can be accessed on a wide variety of platforms such as Android, iOS, Fire TV, Android TV, PlayStation, Xbox and many more.
You can also easily access Plex here via your web browser, and if first impressions are a little underwhelming, stick with it and you will unearth some hidden gems.
If you're a fan of reality TV and cooking shows then Plex is serving up A Cook's Tour with the late, great Anthony Bourdain, as well as Gordon Ramsay's always-entertaining Hell's Kitchen.
But if comedy is more your bag, look no further than Ricky Gervais's Extras, acclaimed crime drama Happy Valley and fellow BBC series Silent Witness.
Maybe you're in the mood for some chills? If so there's a Plex-cellent film library on offer including cult classic From Dusk Till Dawn, starring George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino.
And that's not all as Plex also has a number of themed channels which offer curated content you can tune into.
Classic 80s comedy-drama and science fiction fun
BBC iPlayer, All4 and the ITV Hub
While you need a TV license to watch live content on BBC iPlayer, All4 and the ITV Hub, it can be easy to overlook the massive wealth of entertainment here at your fingertips.
There's an enormous selection of exclusive dramas and boxsets to gorge on, not to mention the extremely handy catch-up services for all those live broadcasts you may have missed.
BBC's iPlayer plays host to all time classics such as Gavin and Stacey, Doctor Who and People Just Do Nothing - with an additional option to catch up on live classics like Eastenders, QI and Ru Paul's Drag Race.
The often overlooked ITV Hub offers the same features as BBC's iPlayer, allowing viewers to keep abreast of Coronation Street and Emmerdale out of hours, while also devouring wonderfully ageless boxsets like Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Doc Martin.
Elsewhere, All4 allows viewers to watch TV live while also catching up later on shows they may have missed. Here you can find Great British hits like the hugely popular Gogglebox, Taskmaster, Made in Chelsea and - there's that man again - Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
