After the seventh full slate of regular season action, the NFL and fantasy football are humming to the middle of the season.
If you had a tough injury in Week 7, or you have a player hitting their bye week at an inopportune time, we’ll scan the waiver wire. For potential pickups, we’ll consider players who are available in at least 50% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Let’s take a look at some of the potential waiver wire pickups that could help your teams heading into Week 8 of the NFL campaign.
Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers (25.8%)
In Carolina’s first game since trading Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers, Hubbard had a solid day, recording 14.3 fantasy points before suffering a minor ankle injury. He shouldn’t miss any time and his 6.5 yards per attempt average on the year should make him a relevant back for fantasy purposes.
Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants (13.8%)
The Giants have been rolling to start the year, and they’ve been doing it without Robinson, Kenny Golladay or Kadarius Toney for most of the season.
Robinson returned from injury for the last two games and has averaged 9.6 points in those contests. His ability to get open quickly could help him develop a rapport with the next guy on the list.
Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants (28.9%)
Jones has been a pleasant surprise for a New York team that seemed destined to be looking for a quarterback in this upcoming offseason. Through seven weeks, he’s the ninth-ranked quarterback in fantasy football, averaging 17 points per contest.
In Week 8, the Giants play the Seattle Seahawks, whose defense is giving up 18.3 points per week to opposing quarterbacks.
SEA giving up 18.3 PPG
Mike Gesicki, TE, Miami Dolphins (44%)
Tight end is a barren wasteland right now. It’s hard to predict who’s going to have the random two-touchdown days each week. However, Gesicki has seen a bump in his usage in the last two weeks, as he’s received seven targets in each matchup.
This may be the start of a turnaround for the Penn State product. At the very least, it could be a sign that Miami wants to get him more involved to increase his trade value.
Commanders, D/ST (19.5%)
Washington’s defense hasn’t been anything special this year – they’re ranked as the 21st defense in fantasy, averaging just 4.6 points per game. However, a Week 8 matchup against Sam Ehlinger, who is getting his first career start, could be a great situation for streaming purposes.
