After the second full slate of regular season action, the NFL and fantasy football are back in full swing.
If you had a tough injury in Week 2, or you just didn’t get the production from one of your players that you expected, we’ll scan the waiver wire. For potential pickups, we’ll consider players who are available in at least 50% of ESPN fantasy leagues.
Let’s take a look at some of the potential waiver wire pickups that could help your teams heading into Week 3 of the NFL campaign.
Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions (6.8%)
At this point, fantasy owners have probably found their starting quarterback that they’re willing to roll with, but if you’re looking to find a streamer, Goff may be the answer.
Through two games, he’s the ninth-highest-scoring quarterback, averaging 20.8 fantasy points per game. In Week 3, he’s facing the Minnesota Vikings, who are giving up 19.7 to quarterbacks per game. They were torn apart by Jalen Hurts on Monday night, and Goff could have similar success.
Jamaal Williams, RB, Detroit Lions (43.8%)
Waiver wire running backs don’t offer a ton of upside this week. Owners could be looking at grabbing one of Eno Benjamin or Darrel Williams with the hopes that James Conner (ankle) doesn’t play. However, grabbing the Williams from Detroit may be more beneficial long term.
Despite being the second back on the Lions’ depth chart, Williams has still produced as the 19th running back in fantasy this season, recording at least 11 carries in the first two games.
If D’Andre Swift, who missed seven games over the last two seasons) were to go down, Williams would instantly become a starter. For now, he could at least be a possible flex play/handcuff.
Corey Davis, WR, New York Jets (4.4%)
With Joe Flacco leading the charge in New York, the Jets have been throwing the ball around an awful lot. Davis has been one of the biggest benefactors, averaging 13 fantasy points per contest which makes him the 19th-ranked wideout.
He doesn’t have the most favorable matchups going forward (Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins), but with Elijah Moore and Garrett Wilson stealing some attention now, Davis could continue his fantasy relevance.
Gerald Everett, TE, Los Angeles Chargers (30.7%)
We’re here, once again, to spread the good word of Everett. He continued his production from Week 1 to keep up his 11.5-point average (fourth among all tight ends).
Keenan Allen’s potential return in Week 3 could put a bit of a damper on the numbers, but this offense is really at its full potential when Justin Herbert has a tight end that he can rely on.
Eagles, D/ST (20.6%)
As far as streaming defenses go, the Eagles might be the best owners can find this week.
They’re entering Week 3 as the seventh-ranked unit, averaging nine fantasy points per game. And, their matchup with the Washington Commanders makes it even more enticing.
Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz has thrown three interceptions in their first two games and has been sacked six times (eighth-most). After praying on Kirk Cousins on Monday, Philadelphia might be able to take advantage of Wentz’s decision-making.
