Best Amazon Prime Day Echo deals: How to choose your ideal Alexa enabled smart speaker

Smart speakers have grown in popularity in recent years, with most homes now having at least one somewhere in the house. Whether you use it as a timer in the kitchen, to throw on music as you get ready or as your morning alarm or to help the children with their homework, it has plenty of uses.

Amazon have a huge range of Echo models, with one costing less than £10 and another ideal for those who regularly host gatherings and parties at their homes. It can be tricky to know what's the best model and with Prime Day slashing prices, now is a great time to invest.

So what's the best model for you? Here's our guide to the different models:

Amazon Echo Flex

The Echo Flex is the cheapest Echo model with it regularly costing less than £10. It has a built in Alexa that you can use to make hands-free calls, check the weather and ask questions. Unlike the other models, this one isn't suitable for playing music as the 0.6" mini speaker isn't quite as powerful as you would want for music play.

It is great entry-level device for making your home smart, easily plugged into any plug socket and at an affordable price you can easily send voice messages to every room with an Echo in it or use Drop In to get a two-way intercom going. This is ideal for announcing dinner is ready to the whole family or quickly getting in touch across the house.

You can also use the Flex to make calls to almost anyone, that means if you can't find your phone you can even ask Alexa to call it.

You can also charge your phone and add on a nightlight feature by taking advantage of the USB-A port. This is a good options for families who want a Smart Home.

Current price: £9.99

Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation)

The Echo Dot (3rd generation) is a classic and compact model of the popular speaker, suitable for playing music in your office or bedroom with the 1.6" speaker being perfect for small gatherings or alone time.

You can use all of the features of the Flex while also taking advantage of the sound quality to listen to your favourite songs, podcasts, radio shows and books with Audible.

These are great for in the kitchen as you can set hands-free timers and alarms while you're busy cooking.

Current price: £24.00 although we saw it drop to just £17 in the run up to Christmas last year, making it a possible contender for a solid discount this Amazon Prime Day.

Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation)

Boasting all of the same features as the Echo Dot (3rd generation), the Echo Dot (4th generation) has slightly better sound quality as the speaker is forward facing and directs the sound in one direction.

Not only that, but if you opt for the version with a clock face you can see what time it is at a glance.

This one is perfect for the bedroom, with it making the perfect alarm clock.

Current price: £29.99, although we saw it drop as low as £24.99 in early April.

Amazon Echo

If sound quality is of great importance to you then the Echo is a great option, although it looks a lot like the more recent Echo Dot model it boasts much better sound quality.

Unlike the Dots which only have 1.6" speakers, this one features a 3.0" woofer and dual 0.8" tweeters.

With Dolby audio built in, this is perfect for playing music with the rich sound quality.

Current price: £64.00. Amazon discounted it to £54.99 as part of their Black Friday promotions last year. Could we see it drop again this Prime Day? We'll know for sure next week.

Amazon Echo Studio

For music buffs, sound quality is of the utmost importance and Amazon knows that.

That's why the Echo Studio has Dolby Atmos software and 3D sound to transform any space. It automatically adapts to the acoustics of any room while having all the features of the other Echo models.

The Echo Studio doesn't hold back, it has three 2” (51 mm) midrange speakers, one 1” (25 mm) tweeter, one 5.25” (133 mm) woofer with bass aperture to maximise bass output. This is ideal for music lovers.

Price: £189.99. Amazon has kept the price of the Echo Studio firmly at its RRP since September last year, with no discounts available for the top end of their smart speaker range. If the retailer does discount it this Prime Day and you've been looking for a high-spec option then it is the perfect time to pick one up.
