Best Amazon device deals for Prime Big Deals Days 2024: Ring doorbell, Kindle and more

There are plenty of handy Amazon devices to keep your house in tip-top shape and with the long-awaited Amazon sale here, what better time to revamp your gadgets and gizmos?

A Kindle will keep you occupied as you laze in the garden under the summer sun, while a Ring doorbell offers peace of mind if you’re planning a tropical trip away by letting you vet visitors even if you’re miles away. If you’re cracking through your to-do list, Alexa is on hand to keep you company during cleaning and DIY tasking.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Brace yourselves for one of the biggest sales events around. Each year without fail Amazon hosts a generous sale of its finest products. The flagship event takes place in July, but last year we were treated to smaller seasonal sales in March and October.

This year the event will take place on October 8 and 9.

When is Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2024?

The established Prime event typically takes place in July, but if you missed out, fear not. There will be another event in October where there will be discounts on TVs, laptops, DIY home improvements, garden furniture, BBQs, Apple products and more.

How to take part in Amazon Prime Big Deal Days

If same or next-day delivery, thousands of bingeable TV shows and movies and over 100 million songs on Amazon Music appeal, here’s the deal.

You typically must be a Prime subscriber to reap the rewards of the Prime Day events. A Prime membership costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year and that is reduced if you’re a student (£4.49 per month or £47.49 per year).

What kind of device deals were there last year?

In October 2023, we saw innumerable irresistible deals on Amazon Fire TVs, Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Kindles, Ring doorbells and Echo to name a few.

Are there any device discounts available at Amazon now?

This is Amazon we’re talking about, so there’s always a deal to be found. We’ve spotlighted some of the best options across Amazon devices below.

Echo Spot

The new launch from Amazon’s device arm is a smart alarm clock, set to transform the beginning and end of your day.

The sleek round clock boasts a gradual display, customisable faces and can give you the time and weather just by asking out loud thanks to voice commands. Hook it up to other Alexa-enabled devices and it will even switch off the lights for you.

What’s more, you can use it to wake or snooze to your favourite tunes with pitch-perfect sound to suit the time of day. It can also play audiobooks, meaning bedtime stories are in the bag.

Right now, Amazon Prime members can get 38 per cent off the device, but only while stocks last. Available in black, white and blue.

Current deals on Amazon Kindle

Feed your mind with a collection of books that would make the British Library blush with Amazon’s lauded e-reader, the Kindle.

You’ll never have to sacrifice precious bag space for thick books with this ultra-slim device on hand. It offers crisp resolution on a glare-free, like-paper display, making reading easy in poor light as well as overexposed. Best of all, when fully charged, the battery can last up to six weeks, so you can pick up that page-turner where you left off.

Kindle Kids e-readers are the perfect way to nurture young bookworms, distraction-free.

There are slightly different models of the OG e-reader, including the Kindle Paperwhite, and the all-new Kindle Scribe, a digital notebook that lets you write and draw as well as read.

Current deals on Amazon Fire Tablet

There have been many generations of Amazon’s Fire Tablet, we’re on the 11th evolution at this point.

The tech sharpens with every version, yet the value for money remains the same. You can get a top-quality Fire for under £200, and that’s in a normal month. When the sales hit, the prices drop and they’re a bestseller.

As well as streaming content, taking pics and light internet browsing, you can manage all the smart devices in your home from one point on this handheld computer. Absolute control, right in your hands.

Current deals on Amazon Fire TV

Amazon Fire TV brings all the Amazon favourites to the big screen.

Shop 32-inch to 65-inch Amazon Fire TVs pre-packed with features like Alexa voice commands and top streaming apps: Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ and Apply TV are all included as standard.

A feast for your eyes, all in one place, ready and waiting.

Amazon Fire TV Cube

  • Best for: Smart features
  • OS: Fire TV
  • Dimensions: 86.1 x 86.1 x 76.9 mm
  • Resolution: 4K
  • Frame rate: 60fps
  • HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10+
  • Wireless connectivity: Dual-band 802.11ac

The Amazon Fire TV Cube is an interesting smart home device – part streaming player, part smart speaker, all bundled into one compact and rather fetching cube, acting as a hub for both your smart home and your home theater setup.

You’ll get much better performance here than with cheaper Fire TV Sticks, with the Cube packing in a hexa-core processor, Dolby Atmos audio support, and premium HDR formats such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+. That’s alongside a fleshed-out Alexa assistant, which allows for hands-free control of video playback, universal search, and more both through the Cube’s speakers and onscreen through the Fire TV interface.

While you can get a 4K Fire TV Stick for less, this is no doubt the best and most fleshed-out Amazon streamer to date.

Fed up of tedious channel-surfing? You’ll never be at a loss for something to watch with Amazon’s Fire TV plugged into your set.

As well as dedicated buttons to skip straight to your favourite streaming platforms (including Prime Video, natch) the 4K and HD-supporting Stick can take voice commands to take you straight to the show or channel you want.

The only thing it can’t do (yet) is make your popcorn for you.

Current deals on Amazon Echo Show

A speaker with a touchscreen, this Amazon-brand device is perfect for making video calls and conferences. If you’ve installed Philips Hue lights, IKEA smart lights, Samsung SmartThings and Honeywell’s thermostat, you can control it all through the Amazon Echo Plus, which has the ZigBee wireless system.

The most recent iteration is the Echo Show 15, a mini screen with Fire TV built in which you can use in the kitchen or as a small telly for the bedroom. When it’s not screening TV or movies, set it to Photo Frame mode and it will showcase the images stored in your Amazon Photos account, the latter of which is free with a Prime membership.

Amazon Echo Buds (2nd Gen)

Best for: Alexa everywhere you go

Blessed with the slick, minimalist, yet robust design we’ve all come to know and love from Amazon’s Echo gear, although the Echo Buds come with Alexa as your in-house genie in the lamp, being both iOS- and Android-compatible, they play nice with Siri and Google Assistant too, should you happen to have a favourite.

Coming in a matt white or black finish and offering up to five hours of playback, with a matching charging case that boosts that to a total of 15 hours, this 2nd generation of Echo Buds features active noise cancellation (ANC) to keep the audio of the outside world at bay.

Sweat-resistant to allow the audio to flow as freely as personal perspiration on hot days, a choice of ear tips allows for the perfect fit and accessing the Alexa app lets you adjust the EQ, alter the Echo Buds’ touch controls and toggle Power saving mode on and off.

Then, of course, there’s Alexa. Available instantly via the wake word to do your bidding, answer your questions, make your calls and all that other Alexa stuff. A favourite feature of mine (as a man who has allowed Alexa access to all areas of his house) is that I can order Alexa to shift whatever I’m listening to on my Echo speaker to my Echo Buds and have it there, in-ear, instantly, allowing me to walk out of the house without missing a beat, but also probably forgetting to lock the door and/or put my shoes on first.

With the EQ set to your personal preference, sound quality is bright, detailed and powerful, while the bass proved pleasingly tight as I segued between my ‘Bit Angry’, ‘Not Rock’ and utterly meaninglessly titled ‘Chimpanzee for The Devil’ playlists to give them a good and proper workout.

As to the noise cancellation aspect, this 2nd generation now cuts out twice the ambient racket the original iteration could manage, and while this may not be enough to get you through an active building site without audio incursion, they allowed me to write this review while stuck in a house with two young kids trying to murder each other on one of the hottest days of the year thus far, so the ANC and the Amazon Echo Buds, in general, get a big thumbs-up.
