Bernd Leno exit, Youri Tielemans doubt, Takehiro Tomiyasu fitness boost and Arsenal WSL fixtures

With just four days to go until the start of the Premier League season, things are looking pretty good for Arsenal. The Gunners rounded off their pre-season preparations with a 6-0 hammering of Sevilla in the Emirates Cup and are looking to be one of the sharpest teams in the country, even if it is probably too early to draw conclusions.

This has all been helped by the arrival of a series of new signings who have bolstered the Mikel Arteta's squad. Gabriel Jesus introduced himself to the Emirates Stadium crowd with a hat-trick on Saturday, while Oleksandr Zinchenko continues to impress at left-back, and Matt Turner and Marquinhos have done well in pre-season.

To make matters even more exciting William Saliba has looked almost entirely unflappable during his return to the side following his loan at Marseille. This may represent a pretty successful window so far, but Edu's work is far from over.

Arsenal are now turning their attention to getting some of the club's surplus players out the door. The club travelled on their pre-season tour of the United States with a group of 33 players and Arteta has admitted that this will be tricky to manage across the coming campaign.

Nuno Tavares has already left on loan to lessen numbers but the expectation is that things won't stop there. Bernd Leno is close to securing a move to Fulham after losing his starting spot to Aaron Ramsdale last season, while Flo Balogun is said to be edging closer to a season-long loan at Stade Reims this season. Lucas Torreira, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Runar Alex Runarsson, Hector Bellerin and Nicolas Pepe are among the others who could also leave before the window closes on September 1.

The Gunners are still hopeful of bringing some more players in between now and then too. One of those is Youri Tielemans, but with the midfield position relatively packed at the minute in North London, Arteta is biding his time. A forward capable of playing along the front line is also still on the agenda.

Before that though there is a decision to be made ahead of Friday night's Premier League curtain raiser with Crystal Palace. Takehiro Tomiyasu is back in training but it remains to be seen whether he will replace Ben White or William Saliba if he's deemed fit enough to start.

Away from the men's game Arsenal's women also played a huge part as England claimed victory in Euro 2022 on Sunday night. Beth Mead was named player of the tournament and won the Golden Boot, while Leah Williamson captained the side to their success. With the hype around the women's game now on the rise there is plenty of excitement for the upcoming WSL season where Arsenal are among the favourites.
