Berkeley Springs Boil Water Advisory Now Covers Most Town Customers as Health Officials Check Affected Restaurants

Most customers of Berkeley Springs Water Works in Morgan County, West Virginia, remain under a boil water advisory after a major water main leak drained the system last week, and county health staff are visiting restaurants and other food businesses to decide whether they can operate safely. As of Sunday, October 18, the advisory covered every customer except those south on Route 522 past the Sheetz on Valley Road, according to the Town of Bath's online water service interruption notice. The town runs the water system.

The advisory grew quickly. On Friday, October 16, the town listed 26 streets on the north side of Berkeley Springs where the advisory would apply once service returned. By Saturday, it covered nearly the entire system. The Berkeley-Morgan County Health Department said it learned on Sunday morning, through social media, that the advisory was still in effect and covered a larger area than it had first been told.
