Benjamin Siegrist leaves Celtic as Neil Lennon pounces to sign unwanted goalkeeper

Swiss goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has officially departed Celtic to join Rapid Bucharest on a permanent basis.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper made the move to Celtic from Dundee United in June 2022 but found playing time limited, featuring in just two senior matches during his two seasons in Glasgow.

With the recent signings of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, following Joe Hart's retirement, along with Scott Bain remaining with the squad, Siegrist's path to regular game time under Brendan Rodgers' management became increasingly challenging.

Consequently, the club has decided to facilitate his transfer to Romania, where he will reunite with former Celtic captain and manager Neil Lennon, who now leads Rapid.

Siegrist has penned a two-year deal, with an option of another if things go to plan.

As Siegrist embarks on this new chapter in his career, he will be looking to establish himself as a key player in the Romanian league, having been a standout during his time at Dundee United previously.
