Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy allegedly asked police “How many stories like this do you have?” when he was arrested and cautioned for rape. According to an officer who went to Mendy's house, the footballer, 28, asked the question as he was being arrested for allegedly raping a woman three times in his “locked” bedroom during a party in October 2020.
Prosecutor Timothy Cray QC read out the statement of PC Luke Browczuk who went to the French international's home after the woman reported him to police several weeks later in November 2020. He said that, when he cautioned Mendy and asked if he understood, the footballer’s response was: “I understand what you are doing, your job and stuff. How many stories like this do you have?”
Mendy is accused of a total of eight counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and another count of sexual assault. He denies all charges.

Chester Crown Court has heard the alleged offences took place on five different occasions at his home in Cheshire between October 2018 and August last year. Jurors heard evidence last week from a woman who claims she was raped three times by Mendy in his “locked bedroom” during a party.
The woman claimed she repeatedly told Mendy she did not want to have sex with him during the incident but said he told her: “Well the door’s locked anyway” and told her to strip down to her underwear.
She claims that, after he raped her, he said: “It’s fine, I have had sex with 10,000 women” and allegedly added: “it’s a privilege”.
The court heard the woman attended a rape crisis centre the next day and reported Mendy to police several weeks later in November that year. Mendy was then arrested by police at his “isolated” home, known as The Spinney, on November 11.
Jurors previously heard Mendy had “panic room” style locks on some of the rooms in his home, including his bedroom. Also on trial is Mendy’s friend and “fixer” Louis Saha Matturie, 41, who allegedly helped find young women for Mendy and was present at parties where women claim they were raped.
Saha, of Eccles, denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault against seven different women - two of whom Mendy is also accused of raping. Mr Cray said Mendy and Saha will argue the women “consented to sex willingly and often enthusiastically”.
