Bengaluru: Wife, son among 5 arrested for man's death over property row

BENGALURU: Bannerghatta police recently arrested a 38-year-old woman, her son and three others for allegedly abducting and murdering her husband over a property dispute.

The accused are Shobha alias Yashodha, her son Nikhil alias Abhi, 22, both residents of Garvebhavipalya, near HSR Layout, and their associates Gurukuran, 21, Vishwas, 20, both from Kaggalipura, and Manjunath, 29, from Begur.

On December 19, they allegedly kidnapped Yashodha's husband Channigarayappa, 45, from his village Pannenahalli in Koratagere taluk, Tumakuru district, and brought him to her residence in Garvebhavipalya.

They demanded that he hand over ownership of 21 guntas of land in his village to Nikhil. When Channigarayappa resisted, they took him to an isolated place at Byatarayanadoddi village, allegedly stabbed him to death and burnt his body using petrol. On December 20, cops were informed about the body by the public. They took up a murder case but were unable to identify the victim as the body was completely burnt.

Kona Vamshi Krishna, superintendent of police, Bengaluru, formed a special team headed by Lakshmi Ganesh, additional superintendent of police, HK Mahananda, inspector, and Anjan Kumar, SI, to crack the case.

The team learnt about a missing person complaint registered in Hebbur police station of Tumakuru district by Channigarayappa's elder brother. The brother subsequently identified the body. Investigation revealed Yashodha had separated from her husband 20 years ago and was living in Bengaluru with her son. She worked in a garment factory while Nikhil was employed in a fabrication unit.

Channigararayappa's elder brother Kenganna suspected Yashodha's hand in the murder and informed police about the dispute. On being picked up by cops, she confessed. Police subsequently arrested the other accused.
