Bengaluru: Scrapping aptitude test may hinder pure science dreams

BENGALURU: The decision of the department of science and technology to discontinue Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) from this year and subsume it under Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) may result in pure science aspirants having one less major government funding to fall back on.

Besides serving as an entrance exam for getting into premier institutions like IISc and Institute for Scientific and Engineering Research, KVPY, an aptitude test, would shortlist pure science students for an interview for availing a generous fellowship up to the PhD level. The scholarship starts from the first year in undergraduate science degree and goes on till they finish their masters.
