Heavy rain pounded parts of the city from Monday (Oct 6) evening, leaving many stranded on flooded roads, especially at night. Motorists had to navigate through inundated roads on their way back from work.
Heavy flooding was reported near Benniganahalli metro station, Ramamurthynagar, Shantinagar, Bannerghatta Road, Outer Ring Road, Mysuru Road, Hosur Road, Railway underpass, Seshadripuram, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Vijayanagar, Peenya along Tumkur Road, and various parts of Central Business District.
The traffic police were deployed to manage the slow-moving traffic.
Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike control room received multiple complaints regarding flooding roads in various parts of the city, but officials said there was no heavy damage till 11.15 p.m. due to rain.
Heavy rain in the city led to traffic congestion in the Benniginahalli metro station area. Mohan Devaiah, a commuter, said, “Every time it rains, there’s flooding near Benniganahalli metro station due to the metro construction. Only buses could go through the stretch; other vehicles were stuck.”
According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center’s Varuna Mitra dashboard, Jakkur in Yelahanka Zone received 100 mm rainfall, Hampinagar in the South Zone received 73.50 mm and Nagapura in the West Zone received 72 mm rainfall till 11.30 pm.
