Bengaluru rain washes out India's training session ahead of first Test against New Zealand

The Indian team's plans to iron out the leftover creases in their game came to nothing as rain didn't allow their scheduled morning practice session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday to go ahead.

With rain not relenting and the weather forecast remaining poor, the session, which was to start at 11:15 am, was called off.

The fate of New Zealand's training session later in the day at 1:30 pm is expected to be the same amid wet conditions.

India will be going into the series against the Kiwis on the back of a 2-0 clean sweep against Bangladesh. Interestingly, the second Test of that series in Kanpur was also affected by rain. But despite two full days getting washed out, India managed to eke out a win to strengthen their position on top of the World Test Championship (WTC) table.

The local weather department in Karnataka has predicted persistent rain in Bengaluru on the first three days of the match, with little signs of improvement on the last two days. A yellow alert has also been issued for various regions across the state.

New Zealand's one-0ff Test (not part of WTC) against Afghanistan in Greater Noida recently was also marred by persistent rain before being called off.
