BENGALURU: Close on the heels of miscreants duping at least 20 people of Rs 3 crore on the pretext of getting them MBBS seats, another 20 such victims have approached city police saying they were cheated of nearly Rs 2 crore.
While Commercial Street police have taken up the first case, the latest complaint has been lodged at Cubbon Park station. The FIR identifies the accused as Amrit, Rajani, Sarika and others from a private firm named Help Desk Service For You with an office at Barton Centre on MG Road.
Last November, the accused allegedly sent the victims text messages saying they could help land MBBS seats for their children at various medical colleges in the city. “Trusting them to be genuine persons in the trade, we met them and paid money in instalments,” the victims explained in their statement to police.
Cops said the accused have switched off their mobile phones and vacated their PG accommodations in Basavanagudi. “They occupied the PG around a year ago and purchased sim cards that they used to communicate with the victims just six months ago. This indicates they collected the money with the intention of cheating the victims,” an investigating officer said.
