BENGALURU: Officials at BWSSB estimate that every day 500 new migrants set up their homes in Bengaluru. Given their population estimates, they expect the city to face acute water shortage by 2039.

The civic agency pumps 1,470 million litres of water per day (mlpd) from Cauvery river into the city’s distribution network consisting of 10.5 lakh connections. According to Census 2011, Bengaluru had 29,05,233 occupied households.
