BENGALURU: Bengalureans have a reason to cheer. After intense public pressure, the entire purple line from Challaghatta to Kadugodi (Whitefield) will be opened for commercial operations from Monday (October 9). The two-missing links of the line, Challaghatta – Kengeri and K R Pura – Byappanahalli will be opened without any formal inauguration. For the first time in the history of Namma Metro, the BMRCL is opening new stretches of Metro without formal inauguration.
The BMRCL on October 5 had written a letter to the Union Housing and Urban Affair Ministry seeking a date for opening of two stretches of the metro. In its reply on October 8 (Sunday), the ministry states that “It is informed that the above two lines will be formally dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister within two weeks’ time in the presence of Chief Minister, Karnataka. These two sections are vital from the perspective of commuters of Bengaluru as both the sections will provide seamless connectivity from east to west part of Bengaluru City. In view of the above, these two sections of metro lines should be opened for passenger services immediately on October 9 morning without any formal/informal official function so that the daily commuters get immediate benefits from the opening of these two important sections.”
