Bengaluru cobbler's kind act of sheltering stray dogs and a kitten touches people's hearts, here's what happened next

A cobbler's little acts of kindness towards stray dogs and cats in Bengaluru’s Whitefield recently touched many people's hearts online. Despite his financial struggles, the cobbler, who is fondly called 'Ramayya Uncle', showed his generosity by sheltering three stray dogs and a kitten in his small roadside shop. He also fed roughly 15 stray animals in his area with whatever little he earned. And when his heart-warming story caught people's attention online, they united to help him financially.

Ramayya uncle's love for stray animals and his kindness towards them was first noticed by Susan Sunita Kuruvilla, who runs the popular social media account “Leia the Golden Indie”. Touched by his humility and kindness to shelter and provide for three dogs and a kitten while having very little money on his own, Susan had posted about him on her social media account Leia the Golden Indie in December 2023. Sharing Ramayya uncle's unique story, she had written in her post, "Sometimes kindness looks like a little harness made from a scrap piece of leather, and a cardboard box for a bed. Real generosity doesn't come from those who share a little from the abundance we have. It comes from those who share abundantly from the little they have."

Her post further read, "This sweet old cobbler has a tiny shop outside Decathlon in Whitefield, Bangalore. If you ever pass by there, I hope you'll take a second to look at what real love, kindness and generosity look like. In that tiny space where he works to repair old shoes, you will always find at least 3 dogs sleeping warmly and a little kitten playing. It may look like he doesn't have much to share, but he shares everything he has. And that will always be enough to change the world."

This post gained the attention of many netizen's attention who were touched by Ramayya uncle's selflessness. Seeing this, Susan later started a fundraiser for him online on 'Leia the Golden Indie' page. As per reports, roughly 60 people came forward to donate money for Ramayya uncle to help him take care of the stray animals which was later given to him along with a card with the names of all those who donated money to him. This sweet gesture not only surprised Ramayya uncle, but also brought tears to his eyes, as seen in a video.

“He cried and told us that he lost his wife four months ago, and supports his daughter on his own. The money we raised was enough to change his life from here on. And you could see the relief and happiness on his face. When we went back the next day, he had printed our card and hung it in his shop with so much pride. Maybe, it will be his reminder that kindness and generosity did not go unseen,” Susan wrote in the caption of her post.

Of the funds that were raised for Ramayya uncle, half was transferred to his bank account and the rest half would be used for taking care of the strays in his area, as per reports.

"Thank you Uncle Ramayya for showing us all what it means to give from your heart, without ever wanting anything in return. For showing us that true generosity doesn't come from those who give a little from the abundance they have. It comes from those who give abundantly from the little they have," her caption read along with a video of Ramayya uncle talking to his cute kitten.

Such gestures make one believe in the power of kindness. Also, we need more people like Ramayya uncle to make this a better world for everyone to live in.
