Pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj and his associates were detained at Raj Bhavan on September 26, 2023, when they went to stage a protest against the Karnataka government’s move to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. He alleged that the State government was trying to contain the protest by using the police. The protests would continue and on Wednesday, protestors would lay siege to the CM’s residence, he said.
Earlier Kannada Rakshana Vedike president Narayana Gowda and his associates were detained at Gandhinagar while they were marching towards the chief minister’s residence in support of the Bengaluru bandh. Even farmers’ leader Kuruburu Shanthkumar was also detained at Mysore Bank Circle.
Police also detained a group of 20 protestors who had gathered in front of Town Hall shouting slogans and trying to take out a march. They were bundled into a BMTC bus and escorted to CAR grounds.
