Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed that quarterback Joe Burrow will play Sunday against the Browns, he told reporters Friday.
Burrow injured his calf at the beginning of training camp, forcing him to miss the majority of the team’s workouts. Although he was carted off the field, the fourth-year pro avoided a major injury and was able to use the rest of the preseason to get healthy.
Burrow returned to practice last week and said he has been preparing to play in Week 1.
“I’m ready to go,” Burrow said Wednesday.
In the meantime, Burrow and the Bengals agreed to a new contract Wednesday, making him the highest-paid player in the league with a five-year, $275 million deal. In three years, Burrow has led the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance and two AFC championship games.
Cincinnati begins the 2023 season with two key divisional matchups, first against the Browns in Cleveland then at home against the Ravens.
