Bengals want to move around WRs, including Ja’Marr Chase in the slot

The Cincinnati Bengals want even more from Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd.

That might raise an eyebrow or two because Chase just had one of the best rookie seasons ever, Higgins went for 1,000-plus yards with a torn labrum and Tyler Boyd was close to making it a trio in the 1,000-yard club.

But Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com he wants more from all three.

Walters wants to see more from Boyd lining up on the outside, more overall from Higgins and even more looks for Chase from the slot.

“He’s a good, productive receiver and runner in the slot, too,” Walters said. “Look what he did against Kansas City a few times … In his first year, we didn’t want to put a lot on his plate and he did a good job.”

Chase also had roughly a dozen drops that could have been big players, per Walters, who wants to see the start wideout work on his technique at the top of routes, too.

All three guys have talked about working on their games this offseason, so this isn’t the first we’ve heard about this. But the idea of moving around Chase even more next season as a way to counter defense’s adjustments for his presence could enable him to keep riding a high, rather than risking a sophomore slump.
