It sounds like the recovery for Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie remains right on track.
Just days after taking a key step in the comeback process, Awuzie then returned to 11-on-11 work and looked nearly like his usual self, which seemingly positions him for the expected Week 1 return.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor would seem to agree as training camp comes to a close.
“He looks as good as I would have hoped that he’d look at this point of camp,” Taylor said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “He has made a lot of plays on the football, he has done a good job mentally preparing himself to be in a position to come out and play like this. I’m pleased with the plan that (head trainer) Matt Summers and his crew have in place, Chido buying into it, and he has gone about it the right way and looked really good.” …
From the sounds of it so far, Awuzie will be out there in Week 1 serving as the starter alongside Cam Taylor-Britt and Mike Hilton.
If Awuzie remains on a snap count of sorts, the very strong summer for second-rounder DJ Turner suggests the rookie would see some notable work.
