Mock draft season has nearly reached its conclusion, which means the final entries for the Cincinnati Bengals and other teams continue to go live.
One such entry comes from The Ringer’s Danny Kelly. He has the Bengals staying put at No. 28 and grabbing Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid, stressing that his position is more like a wide receiver than tight end:
Kincaid is a tight end in name only—he’s essentially a big receiver who brings dynamic route-running skills and run-after-the-catch talent, particularly over the middle of the field. He could be yet another dangerous playmaker for Joe Burrow and could serve as the de facto long-term replacement for Tyler Boyd.
We’ve stressed for a while now that the idea of replacing Tyler Boyd in one year is a sound one. They did it with Dax Hill eventually replacing Jessie Bates one year ago and could do so again with a player like Kincaid.
There are some past injury concerns with Kincaid, but he’s just what the coaches want — a do-it-all player who can make plays all over the field. That would give the Bengals more diversity in scheme, making their alignments less predictable and harder for teams to prep for weekly.
It’s just one scenario, but it makes a lot of sense ahead of the draft.
