Bengals expect Chase Brown and RBs to get more chances soon

The Cincinnati Bengals expect more out of the running back room coming out of the bye week.

That was one of the themes of the conversation with Bengals offense coordinator Brian Callahan this week as the team preps for the showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.

An offer for Bengals fans

Callahan notably had this to say when asked about rookie Chase Brown, per CLNS Media’s Mike Petraglia: “I think it’s a reasonable expectation to see him play more.”

The Bengals would really like someone to step up behind Joe Mixon. But through six games, Trayveon Williams, Chris Evans and Brown have attempted five or fewer rushes. Ability as a pass-catcher and blocker is something the team takes into account, too.

This serious void still hurting the offense left in the wake of Samaje Perine’s departure in free agency last summer is what has fueled discussion amongst fans about the trade deadline — and why we’ve suggested they trade to get Perine back.

From the sounds of it, though, two or more of the guys already on the roster will get a bigger chance to prove themselves here soon as coaches look to keep Mixon fresh for the entire season.
