It turns out the Cincinnati Bengals weren’t going to let a key assistant get away.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Bengals blocked a request by the Los Angeles Chargers to interview Jordan Kovacs.
That enabled the Bengals to announce the promotion of Kovacs to secondary/safeties coach after Robert Livingston left to join Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.
Kovacs was always in line for the promotion before outside interest, though it’s especially notable that Jim Harbaugh of the Chargers wanted an interview with him, as he worked under Harbaugh briefly back at Michigan.
Instead, the Bengals again promote from within to fill spots on the coaching staff as the turnover continues.
