Crashes in Portarlington, Burwood East and Derrimal take Victoria's road toll to nine

A horror week on Victorian roads has continued, with three lives lost in three separate crashes across the state.

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car in Burwood East on Friday afternoon.

The car and motorcycle collided at the intersection of Middleborough Road and Burwood Highway about 2:30pm, with the male rider of the motorcycle pronounced dead at the scene.

The 18-year-old male driver of the car stopped at the scene and was arrested a short time later.

A woman died after a fatal collision in Portarlington on Friday afternoon, with four others hospitalised in the crash.

Authorities said two vehicles collided on Portarlington and Richards roads about 3:30pm.

The female driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.

The male driver, female passenger and two children from the other vehicle were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nine people have now died on Victorian roads in the space of three days.

Crash south-east of Bendigo claims another life

A Bendigo man in his 40s died when the vehicles collided on the McIvor Highway near Hills Road in Derrinal around 8am.

Police said the car the deceased man was driving had veered into the other lane.

"We've had two vehicles travelling in opposite directions ... one of the vehicles has crossed onto the other side of the road and collided with the other vehicle," Bendigo Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Dale Andrews said.

A 54-year-old Heathcote man was taken to Bendigo Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said they did not believe speed was a factor.

"We do believe other distractions in the car possibly have contributed to the cause of the crash," Acting Sergeant Andrews said.

Acting Sergeant Andrews said it was heartbreaking to think a preventable behaviour had cost a life.

"We tell people time and time again to stay off their phones and not fiddle with things in the vehicle," he said.

"People just don't listen and this is what can happen."

It comes a day after a 25-year-old man died near Sale and just two days after four men were killed in a crash near Shepparton

A truck driver also died when the truck he was in came off the Hume Freeway at Tallarook in Central Victoria on Wednesday.

Police believe he had a medical episode.
