Ben White and Marcus Rashford braced for World Cup call-ups with Callum Wilson also set to be on England plane

Marcus Rashford, Callum Wilson and Ben White are set to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad in Qatar tomorrow as expectation grows around their selection.

The two forwards are yet to fully learn their fate but people with knowledge of the Three Lions squad understand they will be on the list when it is announced tomorrow at 2pm.

Manchester United’s Rashford has not made an England squad since Euro 2020 where he missed a penalty in the final shootout defeat to Italy.

His seven goals and three assists in 17 games see him recalled possibly at the expense of West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, who is not thought to be confident of his chances.

Wilson has six goals in his last 10 Newcastle games and is thought to be in despite having only four caps.

With Harry Kane as England’s captain and main No9, it will likely mean that Roma’s Tammy Abraham, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brentford’s Ivan Toney are not selected.

Arsenal’s Ben White is also thought to be in the list that will be announced at St George’s Park.

It is thought he will replace Reece James due to his growing experience of playing right-back for the Gunners.

James was told that he is not selected by Gareth Southgate in a phone call last night.

“Devastated,” he wrote on Twitter. “The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible.

“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team.

“I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love.”

The rest of the squad is largely thought to be made up of the usual established Three Lions internationals including Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount.
