Ben Stokes avoids further punishment as Cricket Regulator release findings after investigation

  • England cricketers Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson will face no further punishment after the Cricket Regulator concluded they did not breach any ECB regulations following an incident after the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's.
  • The pair were stood down from the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval and received a written warning for breaching a team curfew at a Chelsea nightclub.
  • The Cricket Regulator, after a separate investigation, determined there was "insufficient evidence to establish that any regulatory breach occurred”, thus taking no further action against either player.
  • Stokes is now set to return as captain for the third Test at Trent Bridge, having been named in the England squad, after Joe Root captained the side in his absence during the second Test which New Zealand won.
  • England head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed Stokes' return, stating he has been in daily contact with the captain and that they maintain the same vision for the team, acknowledging that occasional mistakes must be addressed.
