The Night of the Museum actor explained he had been seen on his phone so much while sitting courtside during the NBA Finals was because is working on a film about his beloved team in partnership with A24 for HBO, with the help of Madison Square Garden and the NBA.

He said on players Jalen Burnson and Josh Hart's the Roommates Show: "I'm really excited to announce that we are officially making a documentary about the New York Knicks for HBO. And doing it with A24 and official cooperation of MSG. And NBA."

But the focus of the documentary isn't just on the basketball side's recent success, which culminated in their first NBA championship in 53 years.

Ben explained: “Obviously I’ve been shooting some stuff on my phone, but it’s kind of gonna be about all eras of the Knicks, and this team obviously, there’s a culmination here, of something that’s been going on for a long time. It’s super exciting.

"It’s great to have had all this access to your team. We’re going to probably be shooting a little bit more during next season, and I’m going to hit you guys up for some interviews. It’s going to be over the next year that we’ll be working on it.

"A lot of people have wanted to make it happen for a long time.”

The 60-year-old sports fan admitted making the documentary is a dream come true.

He said: “I could not be more excited. This is a dream project, so cannot wait...

"We just started a little bit before the playoff run."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will be in multiple parts.

An official synopsis from production company A24 said the series will “trace the full arc of the franchise from the ’90s to the improbable, record-breaking run that finally returned a championship to New York."

And the documentary will offer fans "unprecedented NBA access, never-before-seen footage and a definitive look at one of basketball’s most iconic stories.”
