Johnson declined an in-person interview with the Carolina Panthers and withdrew his name from consideration for other jobs he was a candidate to land, notably in Indianapolis and Houston.

Johnson explained why in a great conversation with Tim Twentyman of the Lions. From the Twentyman in the Huddle podcast, here’s what Johnson had to say about why he opted to stay in Detroit instead of pursuing higher positions elsewhere.

“It starts with this place and these people,” Johnson said.
