Ben & Jerry's ice cream recalled from Sainsbury's amid allergy fears

Sainsbury's shoppers are being urged to check their freezers for a batch of ice cream which has been recalled by the manufacturers.

Luxury brand Jen & Jerry's has recalled one lot of its Moo-Phoria Peanut Butter Cookie Dough as some tubs have been fitted with the wrong lid. The incorrect packaging wrongly states the contents inside are Salted Caramel Brownie flavour, meaning the product could be a risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.

The recall, which has been reported by the Food Standards Agency, reads: "Ben & Jerry’s is recalling one batch of Ben & Jerry’s Moo-phoria Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream sold at Sainsbury’s. As a result of a packaging error, it has the incorrect lid of Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie Ice Cream resulting in peanuts not being mentioned on the lid. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts."

Details of the affected batch are below:

Ben & Jerry's has been advised by The FSA to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. This notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.

If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. You do not need a receipt. Alternatively contact the Unilever UK Careline on 0800 146252 or email them at ukicare@unilever.com.

The recalls, issued by the Food Standards Agency, are to ensure that customers are aware that products have a problem with them, making them unfit for sale. The Food Standards Agency issues 'Product Withdrawal Information Notices' and 'Product Recall Information Notices' to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.
