Ice cream giant Ben & Jerry's has been forced to pull one of its popular flavours from the shelves because of 'undeclared peanuts'. The Moo-phoria Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream, which includes peanut butter and cookie dough pieces, was found with the wrong lid in the packaging blunder that put those with a peanut allergy at risk.
According to the Food Standards Agency, one batch is now being taken off the shelves at Sainsbury's because the lid for the Salted Caramel Brownie topped the tubs instead. This meant it did not declare there were peanuts in the product on the lid.
Customers with an allergy to peanuts were therefore put at a risk if they accidentally purchased the item. Ben & Jerry's has recalled the product and has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

The update on the FSA website states: "Ben & Jerry’s is recalling one batch of Ben & Jerry’s Moo-phoria™ Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream sold at Sainsbury’s. As a result of a packaging error, it has the incorrect lid of Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie Ice Cream resulting in peanuts not being mentioned on the lid.
"This product contains peanuts making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts. Ben & Jerry’s is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
"If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
It was confirmed that no other batches or retailers were affected by the mistake. The Ben & Jerry's customer notice read: "The safety of the people that buy and enjoy our products is always our number one priority, which is why we are taking the voluntary precaution of recalling this one batch as it could pose a safety risk to those people with a peanut allergy.
No other Ben & Jerry's products or retailers are affected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your co-operation."
