Ben Doak lands prestigious NXGN list spot as ex-Celtic and Liverpool star joins global top talents

Ben Doak has landed a spot in a prestigious list of top young talents across the globe.

The Liverpool and Scotland Under-21 star has been named in the 50-strong NXGN Awards list by Goal as he joins top talents from Barcelona and Real Madrid in the rankings. In previous years the youngsters have been placed in an order but this time around an elite group has been selected with the former Celtic talent featuring.

Doak has made a meteoric rise since joining Liverpool from Ange Postecoglou's side despite the best efforts of the Scottish champions to retain the attacker. He was handed top team minutes against Dundee United and Rangers but the lure of working with Jurgen Klopp at the EPL outfit proved too much. Not long after his arrival, he made a stunning impact in the UEFA Youth League - including goals against Rangers - and from there hasn't looked back.

A top team debut in the League Cup against Derby County followed with his English Premier League debut quickly following. His first professional contract was also signed this season, with the club and fans alike harbouring huge hopes for the young talent.

Describing the 17-year-old, GOAL wrote: "Hailed as a “natural force” by Jurgen Klopp, Doak has wasted little time in making an impact at Liverpool having joined the Reds from Celtic in a £600,000 deal over the summer.

"The 17-year-old winger, who has been likened to Wayne Rooney due to his aggression and physicality when in possession, has already become the youngest Scot to appear in the Premier League and is an U21 international.

"Though he currently has the likes of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz ahead of him in the pecking order at Anfield, it won’t be long before Doak is pushing Liverpool’s established forwards for a starting berth."

The ex-Celtic kid is joined by another player familiar to the SPFL in the shape of Hearts loan star Garang Kuol. The likes of Gavi from Barcelona also feature in the prestigious list of talent.
