Chelsea are close to making their first signing of the summer transfer window. The length at which it has taken for the Blues to finally bring a deal over the line has not been well received by the vast majority of the Chelsea fan base. In fact, several fans online have expressed their frustration via social media outlets calling for quicker decisions to be made.
The cries for more do not come as a surprise considering Chelsea's loss of two important figures in their back line. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have made their move to L.a Liga and Todd Boehly is yet to replace them. Negotiations have fallen through with Jules Kounde and now it looks like Matthijs de Ligt could be going down that same route. In the midst of all the transfer noise, Ben Chilwell has some words that would encourage many.
“As Chelsea players, we have full confidence in the manager and we know we're not going to get a better manager here, I’m not just saying it. He's an unbelievable manager in all aspects, and I think he has a lot of trust in us as well.”
At the beginning of last season, Ben Chilwell was subject to the bench during the start of Chelsea's Premier League campaign. Marcos Alonso seemed to have taken his spot in the left wing-back pecking order and it felt like an impossible task for Chilwell to overcome. Fans were left uncertain as to why the 25-year-old had been left out to dry, but ultimately had nothing to worry about.
Chilwell was eased back into the team following a difficult period in the Euro 2020 England campaign and came back better than ever. It just proved that Thomas Tuchel knew exactly what he was doing with Chilwell's situation and handled it the best way a manager could.
The moral of the story here was to try not to jump to conclusions. The Chelsea left-back assures fans that Tuchel has the confidence of the players and has vouched for him as an 'unbelievable' manager. Todd Boehly has centred this summer's transfer window around the manager's needs and has supported his wishes in the best way possible. The singing of Raheem Sterling is a testament to this., and so is the consistent effort reflected in negotiations for Tuchel's priority transfer targets such as Matthijs de Ligt.
In a worst-case scenario where Chelsea are unsuccessful in signing anyone else, the Blues can rely on Tuchel to get the best out of each individual in his squad - as he has shown since his arrival in January 2021.
