A below freezing blast will bring eyewateringly cold conditions to Leeds today as people are being urged to prepare for the 'worst snow in a decade' this week across the UK.
Bitterly cold conditions plunging deeply below freezing can be expected in Yorkshire today, as well as snow and sleet showers.
The Monday weather forecast comes as the Met Office issues five days of ice and cold weather warnings and forecasters are warning the UK could see the 'worst snow in a decade'.
The icy blasts will see temperatures go as low as -12C in some parts of the UK this week. And in Yorkshire on Monday, the temperature will hit -5C with snow and sleet predicted.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “After a spell of wet and mild weather to start 2023, a brief cold spell will change the feel of our weather across the UK for a few days next week.
“As a northerly flow establishes, we’ll see temperatures decline with overnight frosts returning and the chance of wintry showers in the north. It will certainly feel cold in all regions too, with the northerly winds creating a notable wind-chill.”
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice for the next three days, after two solid days of warnings, lasting until Wednesday for a total of five days of alerts in what is being described in national reports as an event that could be the worst snow in a decade.
The warning says we can expect 'difficult driving conditions' as well as 'some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces'.
And James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, warned: "There is the potential for what could be a widespread snow event across large parts of the country. The snow is likely to hit northern regions first, but we now expect southern areas to see some snow within this period.
"This could be heavy in parts, and lead to accumulation, and this is likely to cause disruption on the roads and travel networks."
The exact forecast for Leeds on Monday states:
Overnight rain and snow will clear during the morning, leaving another dry and bright day.
Feeling cold despite the sunshine, with temperatures struggling to get above freezing in places. Maximum temperature 2 °C.
In fact, the temperature could drop as low as -5 by 10pm on Monday and although there is no snow or sleet forecast for Leeds on Monday, it is definitely thought to be on the cards this week and a yellow weather warning for ice and cold conditions remains in place until Wednesday.
