Beloved elderly couple killed in horror Cork crash tragedy to be laid to rest

The funeral details have been announced of John Patrick Allen and his wife Berna Allen, nee Holland.

The Carrigaline community in Cork is still mourning the local couple following a tragic accident on Tuesday in which their car collided with a truck.

Missed by their loving relatives and a large group of friends, the couple will be remembered at a Requiem Mass in Carrigaline on Saturday.

A well-respected couple, Mr Allen (83) was a former employee of the Pfizer plant in Ringaskiddy and Mrs Allen (82) was a well-known golfer in previous years. Local councillors and TDs are among those who have sent their sympathies.

Cllr Ben Dalton O'Sullivan has sent his sympathies to the couple's family and friends saying: "It's a very tragic accident and so sad to hear for them and the wider community here in Carrigaline."

Cllr Seamus McGrath of Fianna Fail added: "I'm a Carrigaline resident and this is terribly sad for the community. I'd like to send my own thoughts and prayers to the elderly couple and all those who loved them."

The funeral details of the couple have been announced as: Reposing at Fordes Funeral Home, Old Waterpark, Carrigaline on Friday from 5.00 pm until 6.00 pm. Requiem Mass on Saturday at 11.30 am in Church of Our Lady and St. John, Carrigaline. Funeral afterwards to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carrigaline.

Their death notice reads: "Beloved parents of Barbara, Ken, Bob, John, Gary and Eric. Parents-in-law of Noel, Gill, Sarah, Carla, Vanessa and Linda. Grandparents of Kevin, Kate, John, Toby, Bethan, Henry, Oscar, Peter, Emily, Stephanie, Pippa, Ria, Conor, Joey, Annie and Nina, great-grandparents of Noah.

"Pat is dear brother of Marlene, Pauline and the late Jim. Berna is dear sister of Pat, Gerard, Imelda and the late Nuala. Sadly missed by their loving family, relatives, neighbours and their large circle of friends.

"May they rest in peace."

Family flowers only, the public can make donations in lieu if desired to Marymount University Hospital and Hospice.
