Belgium rocked by big injury blow after dominant World Cup win over USA

  • Belgium and Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana has been ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup and a significant portion of the upcoming season due to a knee injury.
  • Onana sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the first half of Belgium's 4-1 last-16 victory against the USA, an injury that typically requires at least six months for recovery.
  • The 24-year-old's knee buckled without opponent contact, and he was later seen on crutches and wearing a knee brace after being substituted.
  • In the match, Belgium secured a 4-1 win over the USA in Seattle, with Charles De Ketelaere scoring twice, and Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku adding further goals.
  • This victory sends Belgium into the World Cup quarter-finals for the third time in four tournaments, where they are set to face European champions Spain in Los Angeles.
