A Belgian runner was able to complete 366 marathons in a year, putting her on track to conquer a world record in marathon running.

Hilde Dosogne, 55, finished a marathon every day in 2024, making her the first woman to do so. While she still needs to submit witness accounts and data to Guinness World Records to be officially recognized, Dosogne was celebrated by fellow runners and supporters upon finishing her last run on New Year's Eve, as reported by Euronews.

Dosogne, who works as a bio-engineer, ran about 15,444 kilometers (9,596 miles) while battling illnesses and ailments, including the flu, COVID-19, bursitis and blisters, as reported by the Associated Press.

"The mental strain is harder than the physical. Of course, physically, everything has to be okay. Otherwise, you can't run for four hours every day. But it was more mental to be there at the start-line every day," she told AP.

In addition to breaking records, the ultra runner also used the challenge to raise approximately €60,000 (US $62,438) for breast cancer research.

Dosogne's 366 marathons ties her for the overall record with Brazilian runner Hugo Farias, who achieved the same feat in August 2023 and holds the male record. Dosogne is expected to pass Australia's Erchana Murray-Bartlett, who finished 150 marathons in January 2023 and currently holds the women's record.
