Belfast woman's "lost luggage" yet to be returned from before Christmas

A Belfast woman has been without personal items since before Christmas after her luggage was lost as she travelled home.

Samantha John moved to Saudi Arabia for work 15 years ago but still calls Belfast her home. She has now been without her luggage for 19 days, with no date as to when it will be back in her possession.

Speaking to Belfast Live, she said she has been in contact with the airline, KLM, but has not been successful in getting further information on the whereabouts of her case.

"I have been working in Saudi Arabia since 2008 but my family and home is Belfast," she said.

"We were coming from Dammam right through to Dublin, so went from Dammam, to Dubai, Amsterdam and then Dublin. When we got to Dubai Airport there was a considerable delay. Me and another that I met on the journey, that was also going to Dublin, went to the desk and spoke to the KLM staff and they phoned someone and we were assured that our luggage would make it to Dublin.

"We had 30 minutes to get to the plane once we arrived in Amsterdam and the flight there was late leaving because they had to de-ice it. When we got to Dublin, the other girl got her bag and I didn't get mine. I filled in a form at the airport, and assured that it had been located, and was on the next flight to Dublin, and that I should have my luggage within the next two days – this was on December 16.

"I arrived back in Saudi on December 31, without my case - this is not acceptable. I have had to replace everything. I have no idea where my case is, whether it is in Amsterdam or Dublin."

Belfast Live contacted KLM on Tuesday for a comment. On Wednesday, a spokesperson confirmed that they "located the suitcase in Dubai and are arranging for it to be sent to Saudi today".

Samantha said she had not been contacted by the airline to inform her of this development.
