Belfast signs Chelsea legend Drogba for young leaders summit

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has signed up for a major Belfast summit taking place later this year.

The acclaimed footballer will lead a stellar line-up of influential figures who will counsel delegates at the One Young World Summit in Belfast.

Champions League winner and four times Premier League champion, he is hailed as one of the greatest strikers to ever have played for Chelsea, while the former Ivory Coast international is also his country’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Now retired from football, Didier is also recognised for his humanitarian and activism work. In 2007 he created the Didier Drogba Foundation with a focus on providing healthcare and education to underprivileged children in Africa.

One Young World is the global community for young leaders. Its mission is to create a fair, sustainable future for all, by developing young leaders who are taking action to solve the world’s big challenges.

Its annual Summit brings together the brightest young leaders from every country and sector who are working to accelerate social impact across the globe.

This year’s One Young World Summit has been recognised by both the City of Belfast and the UK Government as being part of the official functions to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

Didier has also been a strong advocate for peace, stability and development in Ivory Coast while his foundation has been involved in reconciliation and disaster relief following his country’s post-election crisis in 2010.
