Belfast MUA helping over 40s ‘re-learn’ their makeup

An East Belfast MUA is helping over 40s ‘re-learn’ their makeup.

Lyndsay Maurice, owner and lead MUA of Dollypond Makeup Studio, says she has made it her mission to help women aged 40 and over "embrace and enhance their beautifully changing faces by giving them the skills and confidence to apply their makeup with ease".

Over the years, she says she has found that "women in their forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond can often be disillusioned when buying and applying their makeup".

Lyndsay said: “The natural change in hormones, skin texture, and eye shapes can make the process of applying make-up more challenging.

"This, along with the inclination to rely on the same go-to products and techniques, has seen many of the women I have worked with find themselves in a self-proclaimed ‘rut’ that they wish to get out of."

She took to social media to provide content to a more mature audience and now has over 27k followers on her Instagram - @dollypond_mua.

As well as being kept busy offering face to face makeup lessons and applications in her East Belfast studio, Lyndsay has launched a four-week interactive Zoom course called ‘Re-Learn Your Makeup’.

The course, which welcomes complete beginners and also those who are more experienced, covers areas such as skin preparation, colour correction, a wide range of product types, placement techniques, and four easy to follow demonstrations of day and evening looks.

Participants are invited to go 'back to basics' and begin to re-learn new and sustainable makeup techniques which they can build on each week.

Lyndsay said her course “gives women the time and space to try new techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment".

“The live format allows me to offer help and guidance, as well as answer questions, while the weekly element gives those taking part the chance to practice and hone the techniques learned during each session," the businesswoman added.

She is delighted with the response to the course so far.

"So many of the women have left feedback letting me know how useful the course has been and how much more confident they are with their makeup since doing it," Lyndsay said.

As a busy mother of three, Lyndsay also explained how she "appreciates the challenges of being time-poor" and added: “Re-learning makeup at any age does not have to be complicated or all-consuming.

"I try to keep my techniques practical and achievable. Often the smallest tips can make the biggest difference."

For those who can’t commit to the live sessions, Lyndsay has also made the course available as a set of tutorials.

Either style of course comes with an e-book containing information about the brushes, make-up and skincare products used as well as discount codes.
