Belfast Live readers share the discontinued treats and snacks they miss

With the news Coca-Cola is taking 'Lilt' off the shelves, it got us here at Belfast Live thinking about the treats of years gone past that we all love and miss.

From Tudor Crisps to Mars Delight to Quosh, there is something very nostalgic about looking back on our childhood favourites and allowing the memories to rush back from simpler times.

Our Facebook readers flooded the comments on our petition to bring back Tudor Gammon & Pineapple crisps with some of the discounted snacks they miss the most.

Here are only some of the goodies that are gone but definitely not forgotten:

Fives

We might have High Fives, but they don't compare to a 5p bag of Fives (Reddit)

These little Tayto classics were a small bite of bacon heaven for only 5p. Tayto currently sells a new version called 'High Five's but the common consensus is that they just don't hit the same.

Savoury Straws

Another Tudor crips classic to add alongside Gammon & Pineapple and their ever popular Pickled Onion. I'm not sure any of our readers have been able to find a modern substitute just as good in their searches.

Golden Cup

Golden Cup (Pinterest)

Milk chocolate with a soft toffee centre - this was a popular throwback in the comments section.

Texan Bar

Texan was a nougat and toffee candy bar covered with chocolate, manufactured during the 1970s and withdrawn from sale in the 1980s but was briefly re-launched as a limited "nostalgia" edition by Nestlé in 2005.

A 2004 survey of sweet shops' customers rated the Texan bar as their favourite sweet of all time, by a large margin.

Ross's Puff Candy

Ross's Puff Candy (Pintrest)

A similar concept to a modern-day crunchie, Ross's Puff Candy was a whopping chunk of honeycomb slathered in milk chocolate - hard on the teeth but good for the soul.

Flyte

Flyte was a chocolate bar manufactured by Mars and introduced in 1996. It consisted of a chocolatey, whipped nougat-style centre coated in milk chocolate and was essentially the same as a Milky Way bar.

Secret

It is no secret that our readers would be dying to see this one back on the shelves.

It consisted of a bird's nest-styled chocolate coating with a creamy mousse centre similar to the filling of a Walnut Whip.

Cabana Bars

Another name that was on everyone's lips - Cabana was a chocolate bar combining coconut, caramel, cherries inside a milk chocolate outer layer.

It was first produced in the 1980s and was discontinued in the early 1990s.

Burton's Potato Puffs

Burton's Potato Puffs (Reddit)

The Salt & Vinegar variation of these little beauties proved another popular crisp variation from years gone past.

Cadbury Nobble

Chocolate bars really just are not the same anymore are they?

A little 20p snack that was hard to go wrong by - the Nobble combined milk chocolate with caramel and crunchy cereal.

They are missed dearly but no doubt would be facing the same inflation hit as the Freddo.

Toffo

Toffo (Wikipedia)

Individually wrapped bites of goodness, Toffo was available in plain, mint, and assorted flavours.

Its original advertising slogan was "a man’s gotta chew what a man’s gotta chew".

Frosties

Forget Cola Cubes, Frosties were where it was at.

These cola-flavoured hard sweets with a chewy centre were made by Bassetts and only recently joined the sweets and treats graveyard in 2015.

White Malteasers

White Chocolate Malteasers (Youtube/ junkfoodtaster)

A more recent love that has fallen into discontinuation.

You can still purchase white chocolate Maslteaser truffles but we don't think they can compare to these tasty little treats.

Fry’s Five Centre Chocolate Bars

I mean - it was basically five different chocolate bars in one!

Mars Delight

Not a day goes by that we don't think about how much life was better when Mars Delight was on our shelves.

Discontinued in 2008, there have been numerous petitions over the years asking to bring it back and one day, we hope Mars will hear them.

Flake Snow

White chocolate flake covered in milk chocolate - why did they ever get rid of it!?
