A public health officer's notice is placed on the front of Burger Villains in Page forcing the business to stop trading, but owners say they will return as soon as possible.
The ACT Health Directorate ordered the premises on 2 Page Place to shut down under a prohibition order after it was found to breach food laws.
"The business may not trade from these premises because of continued non compliance with an improvement notice," the sign said.
The notice said the Belconnen branch of the burger chain could not trade from September 13.
The owner, who did not want to be named, told The Canberra Times the order was issued after there were problems with a shared sewerage system at the premises which "took time to address".
He alleged ACT Health stepped in as a "precautionary measure".
"Unfortunately, we experienced significant sewerage issues caused by a system oversight, which falls under the landlord's purview," the owner said.
He said he planned to reopen the Page shop as soon ACT Health re-inspected the premises, which he hoped would happen by the end of the week.
"We are in their hands now," he said.
In the meantime, the owner said the business would upgrade its kitchen equipment to improve its offerings.
A government spokeswoman said there were no cases of customers reporting they had been sick from eating at Burger Villains in Page.
"ACT Health is not aware of any incident of food borne illness in connection with this business," she said.
The spokeswoman said the business could continue trading again once the prohibition order was complied with and assessed by ACT Health's public health officers.
"Regulatory and enforcement action occurs on a risk-based approach informed by requirements under the Food Act and an assessment of the circumstances of the food business and risks to public health," she said.
She added ACT Health was not able to provide more details because the matter was subject to ongoing regulatory action.
"ACT Health is strongly committed to transparency and part of this is to ensure food businesses are afforded natural justice and procedural fairness in relation to any matters raised," she said.
The Burger Villains chain also has a location in Greenway, in Tuggeranong, and a previous shop in Mitchell which closed its doors this month.
The owner said the Mitchell shop shut down because the business was not offered a longer lease.
In October last year, Turkish Pide House in Macquarie shut down after nearly two dozen people reported becoming ill after eating at the business.
