Beetles eye another triumph

Chiang Rai United players take part in a training session.

Chiang Rai United hope to continue their impressive start to the new Thai League 1 season by grabbing three points from their trip to struggling Khon Kaen United on Friday.

The Beetles, despite losing Ekanit Panya to Muang Thong United and Phitiwat Sookjitthammakul to BG Pathum United, are currently third in the league.

Chiang Rai coach Emerson Pereira is expecting a tough game in Khon Kaen.

"We will have some main players available for the game, but it won't be an easy assignment for us. But we expect to create a good result and return home with three points."

Meanwhile, Port head coach Scott Cooper has said captain Tanaboon Ketsarat's sending off just after the half-hour mark led to his team's 4-2 loss to Pathum on Wednesday night.

Cooper said: "We dominated the game in the first 20 minute and were not worried by Pathum United at all. But the red card to Tanaboon changed everything. After that it wasn't easy to contain Pathum."

Port have a relatively easy outing this weekend when they travel to winless cellar-dwellers Nongbua Pitchaya on Sunday night.

The Rabbits will be at PT Prachuap the same night, hoping to claim their third league victory of the season.

Chanathip recalled

Crafty Thai midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin has been named in the 23-strong national squad for the next week's King's Cup at Chiang Mai's 700th Anniversary Stadium.

Another Japan-based player Supachok Sarachat was also included in the team.

Thailand team manager Nualphan Lamsam said she was confident that Chanathip and Supachok "can help the team get good results."

Trinidad and Tobago will meet Tajikistan in the tournament's opening match at 5.30pm on Sept 22, followed by Thailand v Malaysia game at 8.30pm.

The winners will play in the final and the losers face off in the third-place play-off, both scheduled for Sept 25.
