Homes have flooded and people have been told to stay indoors as a huge burst water main sent water and stones flying into the air. Footage showed a large amount of water has flooded Gwenbrook Avenue in Beeston on Tuesday afternoon, March 17.
Video from the scene shows a towering spray of water shooting into the air next to houses on the street. The leak has flooded the surface of the road.
The leak is believed to have originated from the former Nottingham College site, on High Road, which is currently being developed into student accommodation.
Steve Barton, who lives on nearby Lime Grove Avenue, called the emergency services when he first realised the leak while in his garden. He said 'several' homes had been flooded and stones had also been thrown into the air.

Mr Barton said: "It was about 1pm and I was out in the garden and I was aware of a mist, which was quite bizarre because it's been a fine day. Then I also heard a whooshing sound and I went out to investigate and I could see a plume of water, which was around 50-100m from here.
"I could also hear a clattering which the fire service said it had actually been throwing out stones as well." The neighbour at the end came out - she was flooded inside.
"Her house was in direct fire as were several others and there were a couple of other houses we don't have contact details for. The fire services have told us to stay inside because of these stones flying around but as we're speaking now we can see the water running down."
Some nearby tram stops are unable to be served as a result. In a statement on Twitter, operator NET said: "Due to a burst water main, we have no service between Cator Lane & Beeston. NCT Orange Line buses are currently accepting our tickets and passes. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
NET said technicians were en route.
