Drinking will be allowed outside at the front and back of an Irvine pub after their licence was granted on Monday.
Owners of the Carrick, Greene King Ltd, recently applied to the North Ayrshire licensing board for an outdoor area at the back of the pub, following the granting of a pavement cafe at the front.
A number of licensing board members recently visited the premises to see what work was being done and how suitable the pub was for the changes they requested.
Asked if there would be security cameras installed, a pub representative said two or three cameras would be added behind the bar to monitor all the activity.
Councillor Christina Larsen asked how the back would be monitored. A pub representative said an additional member of staff would be employed to deal with that area.
Licensing chair Eleanor Collier asked how the back of the premises would be secured. Adrian Howlett of Greene King said people could access the pub from the car park and added that CCTV and staff would prevent anyone who shouldn’t be coming into the area going in and sitting down.
At night-time they would take steps to ensure no one came into the area out of hours.
Police were initially worried that there could be incidents of disorder as a result of the pavement cafe but confirmed at the meeting that they no longer had any such concerns.
