An indie game sure to capture the hearts and minds of streamers everywhere this year has just been announced, in which players take up the role of a single sperm on its journey through the reproductive system to an egg. Developed by Valentin Wirth, Become (sound that one out) is a third-person indie game based on the ultimate underdog story.
If you’re reading about this game, then you’ve already succeeded in the journey Become promises to take players on, but it does sound fun to relive that first ever achievement with quirky dialogue and tiny hats.
Compete against millions in Become
First announced via a short trailer that starts with a bang – on-screen text sets the scene as “deep inside the balls” – Become is a short adventure game in which players “journey as one of millions of sperm”. Taking the role of a single small sperm cell, players must explore their new surroundings, which are both “fascinating” and “dangerous”, according to the game’s Steam page.
Obstacles to life’s greatest miracle include immune cells, acidic baths, membrane blockages, and antibody attacks, which can be seen in the announcement trailer. To make it all the way, the sperm cell will need to evolve “to be the fastest, toughest, and most efficient swimmer” by collecting key resources like protein and sugar.
When does Become release?
According to the Steam page and announcement trailer, Become is set to come out sometime this year. So far, it seems the game will only be available on Steam
While the game does promise to be short, around two to three hours, it already seems to have replayability with sperm cell customization. Nerdy glasses, horned helmets, binkies, and shark costumes are among the options for cosmetics, while sperm cells can upgrade their abilities throughout their journey with modifiers cheekily titled “got milk”, “busty bouncer”, and “come again” to name a few.
It seems likely that Become will make a splash in the streaming sphere when it releases later this year, as the concept is perfect for juvenile commentary and procreation-related puns. Strange and quirky concepts are what make indie gaming so fun, and Become is already set to be an indie darling.
