A "beautiful young lady" died after drowning in a paddleboard incident off the north Wales coast, an inquest has heard. Emma Louise Powell was an "adventurous" "free spirit", but at around 10pm on Thursday, July 14, the 24-year-old from Llandudno got into difficulties alongside two of her friends off Conwy Morfa.
A major rescue operation involving emergency services, the coastguard and the RNLI was launched in the late hours, and Emma was taken from the water at Beacon’s Jetty, in Conwy county. Emma and her two friends were then taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd for treatment, where Emma tragically died on July 15 at 12.35am.
At an inquest opening held at Ruthin County Hall today (July 25) a provisional cause of death of drowning was given by David Lewis, assistant coroner for North Wales east and central, NorthWalesLive reports. The inquest was adjourned to a future date pending further investigation.
