Beautiful dream home right on the coast with panoramic sea views from a secluded headland

If location is king when it comes to choosing a new home, then this absolute stunner on the coast takes the crown. At the end of a private lane shared with only two other properties on a quiet headland and directly on the shoreline stands this beautiful dream home in surely one of the most incredible coastal locations in Wales.

If you want an uninterrupted and expansive sea view, this property is not shy in delivering what you demand and in buckets - the ocean surrounds it on three sides.

Every front and side window has a perfectly framed seascape tempting you to linger and lose yourself in this absurdly amazing coastal spot.

The house has a front row seat to one of nature's most mesmerising features - watch the storm clouds gather and the waves become choppy from a window seat or sit outside on the front lawn in the summer sun watching the rays dance across the water.

But there's a reason why the house is so strategically placed on a coastal headland, and it's not for the 180 degree view it constantly treats you to, it's because of its history. The building is Grade II listed and for good reason and the hint is the manmade structure that has a plumb spot within the home's sea view; a lighthouse.

The property is called Pilot's Cottage and is one of a pair of lighthouse cottages found on this headland on a remote and idyllic spot on Anglesey.

But that's not the only unique addition to the view, across the water Puffin Island rises up from the surf, uninhabited by humans and a sanctuary for wildlife.

You can take an organised and official boat trip around the island and it is said that a hermitage was established on the rock in the 6th century and a monastery in the 12th century, but now it's nature that has fully claimed the island, and it is all the better for it.

Back on the mainland, and according to the Cadw listing, the cottages were built as a pair in association with Trwyn Du lighthouse, and are dated 1839 on plaques in the gable walls. Built for Trinity House, they are likely to be the work of its consultant engineer, James Walker, who also designed the lighthouse.

There is a reason for this home's unique position and it has history too (Jackson-Stops, Chester / onthemarket.com)

The cottages were home to a series of Trinity House pilots throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the later 20th century the cottages became private dwellings which formed part of the Bulkeley estate and in the 1990s they were sold and modernised.

Pilot's Cottage bears the date 1839 but it wasn't until 1968 that it gained its Grade Ii listing for its 'importance as part of the lighthouse development at Black Point, or Trwyn Du, where the cottages are excellent examples of the formally designed accommodation associated with Trinity House, and have survived with very little external alteration'.

The agent selling this truly unique home states that during the present owner's tenure the property has been subject to a comprehensive scheme of renovation.

This includes, according to the agent, new wiring and plumbing, new double glazed windows, remedial roofing works, re-configuration of part of the layout and a complete cosmetic upgrade including new kitchen and bathrooms throughout.

Happy days then - nothing to do here, no renovation project required, just the need to spend a few moments each day deciding where to relax for the day. But if you do fancy doing a spot of DIY at a coastal home, check out this home with a cottage that needs updating in Pembrokeshire.

Maybe you would like to spend the day on the front lawn, right on the water's edge and bird spotting on the island opposite. Or maybe the rear walled garden with its immaculate lawn is calling you, or the private central courtyard that is protected from sea breezes by the layout of the house? What a wonderful decision to have to make.

As well as the front lawn to park yourself and enjoy the location, there's a large, lawned back garden (Jackson-Stops, Chester / onthemarket.com)
Or you could choose the central, private courtyard for a more intimate and sometimes less windy option (Jackson-Stops, Chester / onthemarket.com)

Maybe you might feel a little bit more energetic and stroll around the headland corner to Penmon Point beach, about 30 seconds away, or wander along the lane to The Pilot House Cafe, and the historic and pretty coastal town of Beaumaris is only about five miles away.

The location then is a selling point so huge it's hard to fully absorb it, but the inside of the cottage can definitely compete for your attention too.

The majority of the property is on the ground floor, configured in a u-shape that hugs and cocoons the central courtyard.

Enter the home at the front, trying to untangle yourself from that entrancing coastal view, and you are straight into a cosy and welcoming sitting room, and from the period fireplace it is evidently part of the original lighthouse cottage.

Although the dual aspect sea views are forever distracting, the interiors are worth noticing and admiring too. The timeless and elegant interior design first established in this room flows like the tide through this special abode.

The interiors are tasteful, comfortable and classic, with subtle nods to the seashore location that surely must be included - how could the location not influence your choice of decor? The added textures are tactile and multi-layered, with nature represented through materials such as wood, cotton, slate, wool and linen.

To the side of this front sitting room is a study and home office that surely has the best sea view in the area to distract you from working with another chance to admire a prime piece of nature's artwork that is perfectly framed by the window, Puffin Island.

Then using a door at the rear of the sitting room gets you to the sprawling accommodation behind. Into the kitchen breakfast room and it's a mix of fresh white Shaker units with an accent of pale blue Corian work surfaces; refreshing.

The kitchen is practical as well as pretty, with a Falcon range cooker with double oven, grill and five ring LPG hob, an AEG dishwasher, and a sink with mixer beneath a window looking towards a view of Snowdon that is likely to distract you and make you drop a plate or two.

The kitchen flows into a substantial living and dining room that runs down one wing of the u-shape layout, with bi-fold doors out onto the central courtyard.

This generous and sociable room also connects the ground floor space to an ensuite bedroom at the end of the wing that can also boast doors out onto the outside space. The flow of the beautiful decor continues into these two spaces too in this first of the two wings.

Back through the lounge dining room, past a cloakroom and along a corridor that takes you to the main bedroom wing of the house - the other side of the u-shaped floorplan.

Two ensuite bedrooms occupy this wing, as well as a surprise internal garage that could be converted into a games room or another bedroom if planning allows, but it is more likely to be packed with all the outdoor gear that fully and actively living by the coast demands.

So which of these three gorgeous bedrooms is considered the master? They all have ensuites and they all have French doors to the courtyard, but it is likely the principal sleeping space is on the first floor of the old cottage.

Access via a hand built custom made oak staircase gets you to the dual aspect bedroom that occupies the whole of the first floor of the original property.

As well as sea views to take your breath away, there's a charming period fireplace as well as a statement slipper bath in the ensuite to entice you inside for a soak after a long day enjoying the great outdoors at this greatest of locations.

This truly unique historic dream home by the water is a rare find, offering a scenic position outside and serenity inside - there's no better combination than that for a perfect coastal retreat to call home.
