Beat The Chasers fans 'totally devastated' as quizzer loses dream money by a second

Beat The Chasers viewers were "gutted" and "totally devastated" by one contestant's unlucky stint on the ITV series on Thursday night.

Frankie, a retired police officer who shared a link to Prince William and Prince Harry, revealed his hopes to go travelling with his wife, his twin brother and his wife.

The quizzer said he "wasn't greedy" as he opted to face just three of the Chasers, for £15,000 - despite being offered as high as £75k.

Frankie was desperate to treat his loved ones with a road trip in California, knowing he would need some money for that.

But as the tense game unfolded, it ended with heartbreak as a couple of wrong answers saw him running out of time.

What really got to viewers though was that the Chasers were also running out of time, and had just one second left on their clock when Frankie bowed out.

Had Frankie got just one question right, or they got one more question wrong, he would have secured the money he wanted for his dream trip.

Just one second came between Frankie and the dream prize money, and he was visibly devastated as the studio lit up red and he lost.

Host Bradley Walsh placed his head on his podium, and Chaser Jenny Ryan had her hand over her mouth in shock.

It was so close that it could have gone either way, and seeing Frankie lose was tough for viewers - especially as he became emotional.

Placing his face in his hands, he was visibly upset and couldn't speak as Bradley told him he was "gutted" for him.

The Chasers said he played a fantastic game and applauded him, with Jenny saying: "That was heartbreaking."

Viewers tuning in at home were "devastated" for the quizzer, with one writing: "Absolutely gutted for Frankie, he played the right game but alas he missed out on the money."

Another viewer said: "Ah poor Frankie could of cried for him heartbreaking he looked so upset."

A third tweeted: "I’ve never been so gutted to see someone miss out," as a fourth commented: "Totally devastated for Frankie... Just 1 second."

This was echoed by another viewer who tweeted: "Gutted for Frankie that was so close!"

Beat The Chasers continues at 9pm on Friday on ITV.
